National Winners coffees are those that were submitted to the Cup of Ecelence® (COE) competition and were approved in the first phase of evaluation by the National Jury to be further evaluated by the International Jury. However, because they did not exceed the 84 minimum-score set up by the COE International Jury, they do not qualify for the COE classification. National Winners may also include microlots that have gone through an independent multi-judge evaluation and/or auction process, but do no have an ACE certfication.
In our opinion, National Winners are the best-value coffees: High quality to ensure admission into a COE competition, but without the high-price, deservedly associated with COE classification.
Beginning with the 2008 crops, National Winners coffees are certified by the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE), the folks that manage and own the Cup of Excellence® logo and program. To preserve its superb quality and to allow them to remain at peak flavor for years, we use cutting-edge storage techniques by vacuum-packing the beans at origin right after the pergamino (parchment) is removed -the ideal time to do it. We then store these wonderful beans in our own climate and humidity controlled warehouses in Boston & New York.
