Javier Meza's farm, Montes de Oro, is located in El Rosario, Leon Cortez micro-region of the reknown Costa Rican coffee growing region of Tarrazu. The Montes de Oro farm has 14 acres and is located at 4,800 feet above sea level.
Javier's coffee varietal production is 70% Caturra and 30% Catuai. His coffee is processed at the La Cabana micro-mill with an average annual production of 750 quintales (100-lbs bags). Javier's coffee beans are processed using the wet (washed) method and are dried on the sun on raised wooden tables ("camas africanas"). The micro mill employs 9 regular workers and 40 seasonal coffee collectors.
This micro-lot is SHB (Stricly Hard Bean) and it is processed to European Standards (EP) comparable to the SCAA's Specialty coffee grade. Nelson gave it a cupping score of 82.5 and noted its crips acidity , good balance, nuanced aftertaste and chocolaty hints. |
