Certified Organic by Ceres, GmbH, an USDA agent. This lot is a 2009/10 crop and was vacuum-packed at origin at the dry mill.
This amazing microlot comes from the San Ignacio Colony ("Colonia"). The Colony is located in the Carrasco La Reserva county of the Province of Caranavi. Roberto's farm is 10 hectares (about 22 acres) and is located at over 5,300 feet above sea level. About half (five hectares) are dedicated to coffee production. Roberto grows Typica variety exclusively.
Roberto is the older brother of Mario Mamani, the #1 COE winner in 2007, which we bought at the International auction. With the COE proceeds he started his own company ”Flor de Café” with his family and built a dry processing plant in El Alto, which started operations on May, 2010. He never again participated in the Cup of Excellence® competition, after winning in 2007. The fact that he won the competition and was able to prosper wasn’t looked very well by other farmers mainly because of jealousy. He grows wonderfull coffee with his family group, and he is getting better every year.
We bought this lot, for the second year in a row, as part of our multi-year contract to buy their complete production. This particular micro lot is sold separately because of its unique flavor and high score. This lot received a cupping score of 87 points by our Head Cupper, as follows.
