We are completely sold ut of this lot. We are planning on participating in the 2010 COE auction in October, so we expect to have some coffee later in the year.
This wonderful coffee is grown in southern Rwanda by a cooperative of 1,216 farmers. The coop was formed in 2004 and was the first in Rwanda to build a new coffee washing station since 1950, a significant symbol for the emerging specialty coffee sector here. In the 2008 Cup of Excellence® competition this coffee ranked sixth. The name of this coopertaive is Abahuzamugambi Ba Kawa Kabuye (Together we work the coffee).
These green (unroasted) coffee beans are of the Bourbon variety, 100% Arabica, and were processed by the fully washed method using natural mountain spring water. It is high-altitude coffee cultivated at 5,400 feet above sea level.
To preserve the beans superb quality and allow them to remain at peak flavor for years, we spent the extra money and used cutting-edge coffee storage techniques (which we pioneered commercially) by having the coffee beans vacuum-packed at origin (Rwanda) right after the pergamino (parchment) is removed. This is the ideal time since it is right before the beans are exported. We then store them in our own climate and humidity controlled warehouse north of Boston, using the best storing conditions for the lucky buyer that will enjoy their stunning, memorable flavor and aroma.
